Kawakawa Outdoor Balm

Outdoor protection that's safe & good for your skin! If you or your child suffer from eczema, this is definitely the outdoor protection we recommend for you, unless you burn super easily in which case we'd recommend our SPF50+ Sunscreen.

This outdoor balm uses a traditional zinc based sunscreen recipe, and has mild insect repelling properties, as well as skin loving properties thanks to the wonders of kawakawa. 

Fantastic for protecting against windburn, insect bites, sunburn, and more! This balm helps keep skin nourished for all your outdoor adventures from any age.

If headed into areas of intense insect activity, we recommend using this in conjunction with our natural insect repellent which we have in both a babysafe version & in an essential oil version. However most people find that this outdoor protection on its own is enough insect protection in the garden, at the park, and in other milder insect areas.

This outdoor balm uses zinc oxide as well as natural oils that naturally provide a barrier from the suns rays, rather using chemicals which react with your skin and can cross into your tissue. 

Zinc oxide is the only recommended safe broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA & UVB rays.

All ingredients are 100% natural, and organic where possible. This makes this sunscreen safe to use on babies, people with sensitive skin, and anyone who wants to cut down the amount of harmful toxins in their life! 
Comes in a glass jar. Spreads well, so a little goes a long way. ( I can use a large jar on our family all year! ) 

Plus, this outdoor protection balm smells divine, and moisturises well too. This is what makes it a fantastic barrier against windburn. Perfect for use when hiking, or up on the skifields.

Our outdoor protection balm is not overly-whitening. It rubs in pretty well, however a small amount of whitening will always remain with our Kawakawa Outdoor Balm (And any other non-nano zinc product). The SPF 50+ sunscreen is 100% clear if this is an important feature for you. 

We also have empty tins for you to use if you'd like to buy a larger size jar, and then fill up your own tins for in the car, in the nappy bag, in the handbag, in the preschool bag, etc. 

Ingredients: Non-nano zinc oxide, wild harvested kawakawa infused olive oil, organic shea butter, organic coconut oil, organic NZ unrefined beeswax & red raspberry seed oil.

If looking for a healing kawakawa balm for things such as insect bite relief, cradle cap, dry skin, eczema relief, our Kawakawa Balm has a stronger concentration of kawakawa than this sunscreen. 

Make sure to test patch on skin first. 
Re-apply every two hours, and after getting out of water. 
No need to wait 20 mins before going outside, this outdoor protection balm is effective as soon as it is applied due to the physical rather than chamical barrier. 
Staying in the shade is however still the most effective method of wind and sun protection for people of all ages. 

Testing has shown this suncreen would allow you to stay out 18x longer than without (ie if you normally burn within 30mins, you'd last 9+hrs - SPF18) but reapplication every 2hrs is recommended due to sweating and rub-off, no matter the SPF. We label it as an SPF15 because legally we can only label in multiples of 5 (ie, either 15 or 20, 18 is not allowed to be printed on the label). 
If a high SPF is important to you, check out our SPF50+ Sunscreen, as this has gone through the full rigorous testing, acheiving an SPF 96 rating at the lab. This makes it more ideal for anyone who burns easily, or for days with more intense sun such as tramping at high elevation or on the snow.
