Lavender oil is probably one of the most popular essential oils due to its wide variety of uses, safety for children and pleasant scent.
It is analgesic, anticonvulsive, antidepressant, antimicrobial, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, sntitoxic, carminative, cholagogue, choleratic, cicatrisant, cordial, cytophylactic, deodorant, diuretic, emmenagogue, hypotensive, insecticide, nervine, parasiticide, rubefacient, sedative, stimulant, sudorific, tonic, vermifuge, vulnerary.
Some uses for lavender include:
Skin: Abcesses, acne, allergies, athlete's foot, boils, bruises, burns, dandruff, dermatitis, earache, eczema, inflammations, insect bites, lice, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, sores, spots, sunburn, wounds.
Circulation, Muscles & Joints: Lumbago, muscular aches & pains, rheumatism, sprains.
Respiratory: Asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, halitosis, laryngitis, throat infections, whooping cough.
Digestive System: Abdominal cramps, colic, dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea.
Genito-Urinary System: Cystitis, dysmenorrhoea, leucorrhoea.
Immune System: Colds, fever, flu.

Lavender oil is safe for children aged 3 months +. It is safe to use during pregnancy (Avoid in first trimester, or consult your medical practitioner), and safe to use during breastfeeding.

3-12 months: No more than 0.5%
1 - 2 years: No more than 1%
2 - 6 years: 2% - up to 5% ok for occasional use.
6 - 10 years: 2% - up to 10% for occasional use.
10 years +: 2% up to 25% for occasional use.
